So. Much. Love.
This article by Brendan Keogh was written right after the trailer for Hitman: Absolution came out, and so it obviously discusses the problematic way violence against women was sexualized for a male audience. This piece goes further, though, and looks at the larger rape culture in videogames. In fact, Brendan specifically addresses many of his comments to people who don’t think rape culture exists, or who don’t think it’s a problem.
So, if you’ve ever wondered what people meant when they talked about “rape culture,” or you didn’t really see the problem with the “sexy nuns” trailer, or if you don’t know why telling people you are going to “rape” them in online shooters is a problem, this piece will be extremely educational. Please read it (and try to keep your privilege in check while you do) and I think we can all learn something.

Reblogged mainly because it needs to be discussed more, but also because it mirrors so much of my reaction/experience with the PETA campaign that led to me starting this blog.
